A Very Special Service
Longevity is a word you'll hear often in our shop. Barbour has rightfully earned a reputation through the last century for producing clothing that lasts. Yet even the toughest garments out there need to be cleaned and repaired and no one beats on a jacket like a Barbour owner. Many Barbour owners become extremely attached to their beloved waxed jackets and refuse to replace them. Why would they? Maybe they trekked across Scotland in their jacket or perhaps they were wearing a Barbour when they shot an antelope on safari in Africa. Whatever the reason, these folks keep their jackets alive by using the very special service that Barbour provides at their US headquarters. Barbour will clean, reproof and repair any of their jackets for a reasonable fee. It's a service Barbour has provided for generations and is well worth the time and money. Take a look at this Beaufort that was purchased in Scotland back in the mid eighties. It was truly in tatters from years of use and Barbour did a beautiful job with the repair.

Giving Thanks

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it has me thinking alot about what makes this such an amazing holiday. I really just love it so much and I'm sure I'm not alone. Friends, family and food are a great place to start but since this is a blog about Barbour by David Wood I want to give thanks to our customers. I really am so very fortunate to have such an incredible group of people shop our store and our web site every day. Most of these folks have known that Barbour has been making the best outerwear on the market for years and they truly understand the product. Some people are finding us by absolute chance, by falling into our store, these folks are my favorite because I get to educate them on what makes a jacket like the Border or the Beaufighter so cool. You live in Maine, you will seriously thank me for getting you into this waxed jacket!
So I want to thank everyone out there who has supported our store in our first year. Have an incredible Thanksgiving, enjoy the turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and all those crazy relatives you get to see on that one special day, Thanksgiving.
Thanks again,
JM

Our First Year
Last year Barbour Inc. and the retailer David Hodgkins of the store David Wood decided to open a shop in Portland Maine's historic Old Port. The intention of the enterprise was to show the Barbour clothing line in a different light than it's more traditional stores in Boston and New York City. David knew that the line which was started in 1894 had the longevity and depth to support a single line store. He also knew that if shown in a different way, Barbour clothing could be a strong fashion line and not a product known just as traditional foul weather wear. Barbour Inc. knew they had the right partner with Hodgkins, founder of David Wood, one of the most successful men's stores in New England.
One year later Barbour by David Wood is still here and prospering.
I am starting this blog because I believe that foul weather wear can be worn in many cool and unique ways. There is an entire lifestyle that can be summed up by appreciating the history of a perfectly weathered waxed Barbour jacket.
